How Now Brown Cow?

What do you do on a cold, snowy day in May?  It's too cold in the garage, where my sort-of-studio is.  So there's no painting being done.  Instead you sit in a warm cozy house, listening to the snow-thunder, and draw till the cows come home!

Happy Anniversary Scott and Hermine!

A friend recently asked me to do an inked piece for his wife for their anniversary.  He supplied me with pictures of each of them in profile, along with her favorite hymn, and some words that speak to who she is.  It seemed a touch out of balance, considering it was an ANNIVERSARY gift.  It takes two to make one, right?

So, I called a friend of theirs and asked for more info....where did they grow up?  What were their parents names?  Where did he propose?  Where did they meet?  The final result was a delightful mix of two lives, intertwined into a beautiful whole.  He called it a "home run"!  Yea!!

A Portrait Artist I Am Not!

What makes a person look like themselves?  I am discovering that it is SUCH a difficult nuance to capture!  This is supposed to be the daughter of a friend, and although it's a lovely drawing with some similarities to the real deal....it's not HER.  It's just a cute little girl.

So hats off to those who manage to nail a likeness!  I am in awe of you!

HOME

I was reminded this week of the mixed joy and sorrow of a family member being called HOME.  My friend lost her dad, and although he's rejoicing with Jesus, we are left behind...sad.  It makes me long all the more for the return of my Lord.  Can I hear a hearty AMEN??

A Hit and A Miss

When Mother's Day was closing in, I started inking this card for my mom.  And it was going to be lovely, really it was.  But the further I got, the more I hated it.  It's just WAY TOO BUSY!  So, my mom didn't get a Mother's Day card.  BAD DAUGHTER!!

I just finished inking this acorn, and I think it's MUCH BETTER!  So, I'll send this to my mom instead.  LATE!  I'm pretty sure she loves me anyways!
