Something New

Late last  year one of my pastors came up to me and told me that they were going to begin preaching through Hebrews in the new year.  Ok! That was something to ponder.  How do you paint something to go with the book of Hebrews?

I eventually decided to go with what I've heard called "Illuminated Calligraphy"... think ancient monks copying out the word of God, and decorating it with all sorts of fabulous images, with stunning fonts.

That's what I tried to achieve.  It took me months to design each canvas, but it wasn't until I was actually beginning to paint that I realized I may have made a mistake!  The images and the text were all so small that I found myself painting most often with either a 1" brush, or worse, a 1/2" brush.  That's pretty doggone small when you have to cover an 8' canvas!!  So I learned.  Large brushes are far, far better!!

Even so, small brushes and hand cramps aside, I'm pleased with the outcome.  God's word is so very rich, with such unmistakable truth.  I'm honored to get to try to display it for my church family to see.
