From the Archives

This is one of a very few number of pastels that I've done.  Frankly, I have NO IDEA how to use pastels!  I keep telling myself that I want to play around with them a little  more and see what I can learn, but something else always interferes.

I call this one "Clouds of Glory", reflecting the longing that God has placed in me for the return of Jesus.  Someday...!!  Soon...?

Clouds of Glory

Way back in 2005 I was playing around with some pastels and came up with this.  I dearly live a huge cloud, piled up tall and brilliant in the sun.  It always reminds me of my beautiful future:

"...and they will see the Son of Man coming

on the clouds of the sky

with great power and glory..."

and

"For the Lord Himself

will descend from heaven

with a shout,

with the voice of the archangel

and with the trumpet of God,

and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Then we who are alive and remain

will be caught up together

with them in the clouds

to meet the Lord in the air,

and so shall we always be with the Lord."

Spider Plant

Every once in awhile I have this overwhelming urge to try something different.  Which is where this piece came from.  I'd been doing watercolors almost exclusively and was BORED!  Time to play with some pastels!

So, I pulled out some craft paper...I have this huge roll of it on a metal rack, complete with cutting edge, that belonged to my grandfather.  It's not meant for fine art.  Really.  But I was just playing around, and it provided an interesting background color.  I think I like it.  Except the paper is all roughed up and pilling in spots, so it's not even close to frame-worthy!  If I want to pursue using pastels, I'll have to buy some real paper and ditch grandpa's big  brown roll!
